3D Experience for Horizon Europe Project SALTO

About 3D experience

As part of the Horizon Europe project SALTO, WIT Berry developed an interactive 3D experience designed to inform a broad audience about the upcoming Hop-test — a major demonstration activity within the project. The 3D experience offers a visually engaging and accessible overview of the test facility, highlighting key tasks and illustrating the operational preparation process in a simplified, high-level format. It was created to make a complex and highly technical topic approachable to both experts and non-specialists, supporting SALTO’s mission of transparency and public engagement.

What did we do?

WIT Berry ensured a 3D development and campaign for the wide audience so that everyone interested could have a possibility to take a glimpse into hop-test preparation.

The Challenge

The core challenge of this project was distilling highly technical information into a clear, engaging, and visually digestible experience. Due to the complexity of the Hop-test and the project’s scientific nature, it was not feasible to present every detail. Instead, WIT Berry had to collaborate closely with technical experts to define a narrative that would showcase the essence of the test process while maintaining scientific integrity. This required balancing accuracy with accessibility — and compressing months of preparation into a concise, story-driven experience.

Results

The 3D experience was a success. people from various countries and with various backgrounds could explore the activities around the Hop-test campaign. In particular, it was interesting to the general public - space enthusiasts and students.

“The 3D experience has been well received, offering viewers an immersive, simplified look into the complex world of space mission preparation. By turning intricate technical processes into a compelling visual story, the SALTO project was able to reach wider audiences — including policymakers, stakeholders, educators, and the general public — and raise awareness about the significance of the Hop-test and the broader goals of the project.”

The tasks that WIT Berry's team implemented

Concept and Story

WIT Berry began by gathering technical input and visual material from SALTO project partners, with a key focus on content provided by CNES and their CONOPS framework. Based on this material, we developed a narrative structure that would guide the 3D experience — outlining what the audience would see, learn, and understand. This scenario formed the backbone of the project and set the creative direction for the development phase.

Development and validation

Once the concept was in place, WIT Berry worked closely with 3D developers and SALTO partners to bring the experience to life. We facilitated the creation of sketches, validated each step of the visual and informational content, and ensured the animation and user experience aligned with the project’s communication goals. This iterative process allowed for a polished final product that accurately reflected the work being done in SALTO.

Communication campaign

To ensure visibility and impact, WIT Berry implemented a multi-channel communication campaign promoting the launch of the 3D experience. This included the creation of visual assets, coordination of newsletter announcements, press communications, and partner channel outreach. The campaign played a key role in drawing attention to the experience and showcasing the innovative work being done within the SALTO project.

Website

To house the 3D experience, we designed and developed a dedicated landing page. The page was built with performance and scalability in mind, ensuring smooth functionality even with high user traffic. We also produced an introductory video and explanatory content to guide users through the experience, making it accessible and user-friendly for first-time visitors.
